Civic Engagement 101
The City of Lamar is proud to announce Lamar Civic Engagement 101, a new program designed to engage residents, educate participants on how city government works, build relationships with City staff, and enhance the services the city provides to the community.
“When residents understand how decisions are made and who does the work, we become true partners,” said Mike Hull, Mayor. “Lamar Civic Engagement 101 is a hands‑on way to open City Hall, answer questions, and listen—so we can deliver even better results for our community.”
“Our goal is simple: make it easier for people to navigate local government, meet the team who serves them, and bring their ideas to the table,” said Rusty Rives, City Administrator. “From utilities and public safety to budgeting and planning, participants will see how it all comes together—and how they can help.”
Lamar Civic Engagement 101 is a six-week program that provides a behind‑the‑scenes look at City operations. Participants will:
- Tour facilities and meet department leaders (e.g., public safety, public works, utilities, finance, planning).
- Learn how budgets, policies, and projects are developed and implemented.
- Understand how to follow an issue from idea to agenda to action.
- Explore practical ways to stay informed and get involved—boards & commissions, service projects, and more.
- Build relationships with City staff and fellow residents to strengthen two‑way communication.
