Ordinance Change for Speed Limits in School Zone

The City Council adjusted the ordinance that covers speed limits in the school zone.

As many of you have heard and seen, the City Council adjusted the ordinance that covers speed limits in the school zones.  The police department saw a need to adjust the times due to the children walking, riding bicycles, and driving to school earlier than what was covered in the then current ordinance.  The new times for the reduced speed in school zones is 7:15am to 3:30pm.  We also have a partial school zone on Broadway Street from 9th Street to 4th Street.  The times for the lights have been adjusted there, as well, for when the kids are walking to school in the morning and home after school.  Remember, if the signs are flashing, the speed limit is reduced and you need to adjust your speed accordingly.

The officers continue to have a high presence in the school zones to insure the kids and motoring public reach their destinations as safely and quickly as possible.  I would like to thank those who have the task every day to take children to the schools and obey the laws such as speed and stopping for people in cross walks.  These are important laws to help protect everyone and each of you all should be recognized for doing your part in helping make the school zones a safer place to travel.
